Just finished a wonderful ya book, Anatomy of a Boyfriend by Daria Snadowski. It’s a story of a high school girl going through first love and heartbreak. And that’s all! There’s no rape, incest, death, divorce, dysfunctional families, or domestic abuse. There’re also no disabilities, discrimination, teen pregnancy, disease, addictions, eating disorders, religion issues, gangs, poverty, being a social outcast, or oppression. There're not even any vampires or supernatural powers. Still, it's one of the most emotionally naked stories I’ve ever read. I recommend this strongly, esp for readers about to start college since it spans senior year of high school through freshman year of college. (The book jacket says it’s for readers 14 and older, though I think 16 should be the minimum because of the graphic, though very realistic, nature of the love scenes.)
